About Us

How it began

Our GroupJust Massage began as a collaboration between Action for the City and an international NGO to create a place for young adults with visual impairments to learn the art of massage and run their own centre. The therapists received training and were certified in physiology and anatomy through Bạch Mai University. Bich-Hang Tran-Tuka, a professional massage therapist from the USA and experienced in working with visual impairments, trained the therapists in Swedish Therapeutic and Shiatsu techniques. Additional training in hygiene, business and marketing skills, and English has equipped these therapists to offer a professional, high-quality massage experience. Just Massage opened in 2007 and has since been diversifying its massage offerings and adding to its client base. More young adults have been trained in therapy as the cycle of Just Massage continues.

Who we are

meditation

Most of the massage therapists come from disadvantaged backgrounds growing up in Hanoi and have varying levels of education. Being visually impaired is a serious handicap in a city like Hanoi and youth often find it difficult to find a well-paying respectable job. Just Massage provides not only stable income, but also dignity, community with one another, and hope for the future. For the therapists, massage is not a mechanical operation, but meditation is incorporated into their daily routine so that when they enter the massage room they are focused and centered.
